Travis Zilg has been through quite the journey of baseball throughout his past 25 years. He has played at some of the highest levels and the biggest stages, one could possibly endeavor as a child growing up. From being on the first team from New Jersey to win Cooperstown Dreams Park (2002) To winning a State Sectional Championship, a Somerset County Championship, and a Somerset County MVP, all in 2009.
After Being an All American his Senior year, He continued at Ramapo College of New Jersey, where Zilg dished out a stellar four-year career for the Roadrunners from 2010-2013. He led Ramapo on the mound during his career with a 2.87 ERA, recorded 21 career wins, made 57 appearances and 13 complete games. He struck out 192 in 275.2 innings pitched while opponents recorded a .220 batting average against him.
Travis stands as #1 For most innings pitched in school history, #2 on the All-Time Ramapo career list for strikeouts in a career, #2 for career wins, #2 for complete games and tied for #6 in career saves while being a 4-year Ace in the starting rotation.
Travis was a Three-year captain, and was named to the NJCBA All-State First, Second and Third Teams during his career. He also earned NJAC Second Team All-Conference and NJAC Honorable Mention All-Conference. All in doing so, while graduating with a 3.0 GPA and a degree in Law and Society/Criminal Justice.
After his career at Ramapo College as a player, He then decided to continue his coaching career at his alma mater, where he helped build a culture of success, and a winning tradition.
In his coaching tenure at Ramapo College, (Head Pitching Coach and Interim Head Coach) His teams posted a record of 129-59-1.
His Pitching Staffs over 5 seasons, had an ERA (earned run average) of 3.19 P/9 Innings over almost 1700 Innings.
In his Only Season as Interim Head Coach. Travis led his team to tie the school record in wins with a 35-15-1 record, while also having his team have accumulate the Highest Team GPA in school history for the baseball program. (3.2 Grade Point Average)
All of these things led Travis, to further his pursuit of baseball, but in a much different way.
He decided to create a youth baseball organization, that gave young athletes, a platform to feel comfortable and relaxed, in a setting to be successful.
Diamond Studs Baseball, which was created back in 2015, was the brand that he wanted people to know of as different, young, unorthodox style of coaching, with the most important thing in his mind, was to make sure the players enjoyed playing the game.
Travis has helped mentor many of young athletes today through his program, in which many still keep in contact with, after pursuing the dream of college baseball.
He has gone on to see dozens of young student athletes move on, at all Division’s (I, II, III) and hopes to continue to have the same success, in helping kids achieve the end goal after high school baseball.
